George G. “Dick” Baker

Dick was a valued and loved employee of Hershey’s Mill for over 13 years. He began as a starter in 1995 and moved into the Locker Room Attendant position a few years ago. Everyone at Hershey’s Mill will greatly miss his exuberant personality and his many stories of a life well lived.

George BakerGeorge G. “Dick” Baker, 80, of Downingtown, passed away on Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at Brandywine Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline J. Williams Baker, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Born in Downingtown, he was the son of Edgar J. and Mineola Guie Baker Jones.

He was a 1945 graduate of Downingtown High School and was the starting quarterback for the Downingtown Whippets that year.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of YNT3.

Mr. Baker worked in advertising as an account executive for 40 years for WCOJ, retiring in 1985. Most recently, he was employed at Hershey’s Mill Country Club.

He was the oldest living member of East Brandywine Baptist Church.

Mr. Baker enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, and loved to hunt and fish.

Special thanks to the critical care team of nurses at Brandywine Hospital for their loving care and support through this difficult time.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Baker is survived by his children, Georgia (Ron) Padgett of Jacksonville, Fla., Ginny (Henry) Kramer of North Potomac, Md., Cindy (Tim) Montgomery of Kernersville, N.C., Eddie (Betsy) Baker of Downingtown, and Richard "Dick" (Krissy) Baker of West Chester. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will take place at
11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 11
East Brandywine Baptist Church,
999 Horseshoe Pike inDowningtown.

Family and friends may call on Sunday, Feb. 10th, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown; and on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Interment will be in East Brandywine Baptist Cemetery, Downingtown.
